I have to say that AndEngine is one of the best Android game engines

I'm one of the technical reviewers of this book. I have to say that AndEngine is one of the best Android game engines, and it's open source!. But there is no official documentation about it, so this book is the "missing manual" you need to learn how AndEngine works, and create successful Android games. This book covers from the most basic features, like setting up your project, to the more advanced like using native code. This book not only covers all AndEngine features, but adds more features, like using 3D models in AndEngine. So if you develop (or you will) games for Android, this book is for you.

For the Serious Game Creators out there!

This book isn't for the absolute beginner, but with some prior reading you'll be able to easily digest this book. I gave the book 5 stars because it covered all the basics that I expect in a Game Programming Book, and having read quite a few of these tech heavy manuals (as well as following along) they should all cover math, theory, game mechanics, design, a solid game loop, and the use of shaders.

The book covered skeletal animation with AndEngine which was really great and an added bonus for making your game go from indie to studio quality. The networking implementation was solid, and I always design my network communications prior to writing code so I can get all the logging features sorted out using UML diagrams.

I highly recommend this title to anyone who is serious about creating games using AndEngine for Android Game Development, but most important a lot of the features are parallel towards PC/iOS game programming which makes this book more viable as a tool. While you'll have to utilize what you've learned here about design and organization to transfer to a different platform, it's highly possible because this book was so well covered.

I agree with the previous reviewer. AndEngine is a great game engine to develop games with. It is important to note that this book is not for the C/Java newbie and anyone who does not know there way around the Android SDK. I particularly enjoyed the chapter on OpenGL and OpenGL ES.

Good reference; not a how-to guide

I almost didn't buy this book based on the other, negative reviews. I am happy that I went against their advice.
The lack of a real index proved to be a major pain in the rear. The book is stictly a reference manual, and as a reference it is quite good. The pictures, drawings and diagrams are worth the price alone. There is little troubleshooting advice. I just completed some major overhaul work on my engine, and I could not have done it without the book.
The bottom line is that the book is a reference, not a how-to manual.
To troubleshoot the fuel injection/electronic ignition I bought another Bently book: Bosch Fuel Injection and Engine Management by Charles Probst.. Maybe its because I knew almost nothing about EFI, but I thought that the Bosch book was the best auto book I've ever purchased. I give it 5 stars and consider it an essential companion to my Bently Vanagon book.

There Is No Better Reference for the T3

No better manual exists for the Type2(T3) Vanagon. Like others here, I feel the negative reviews need to be addressed for their incorrect assumptions regarding what a Factory Repair Manual is.

"Factory Manual" = Not For Beginners

When you read a manual that details factory repair procedures, the presumption is that you are a mechanic. The manual is not there to hold your hand and explain what a pickle fork is and how to use it. Instead it will simply say "remove ball joint". Likewise, troubleshooting procedures will assume you understand the basic operating principles of the various systems and simply provide you with the details. If your tachometer drops to zero and your engine dies, you won't find a factory repair manual anywhere that'll tell you what this means. You are expected to know basic things like that already, in which case the manual tells you all you need to know: the wiring layout and operating parameters of the engine ignition system so you can test it.

I am a competent amateur mechanic at best. With nothing more than the Bentley I was able to install a rebuilt engine, replace the transmission, refit the fuel tank seals, replace the radiator, and restore the AC to functionality. There are very few errors or omissions in this manual, and Bentley Publications maintains a lively and informative discussion forum on their website where any vagueness can be easily clarified. Compared to Haynes manuals, which are not just rife with minor errors and omissions, but are frequently outright WRONG, the Bentley's errors are mere niggling inconsequentialities.

Frankly, many of the specific complaints in the preceding reviews are themselves mystifyingly inaccurate:
-The Bentley manual does NOT tell you "go to the dealer" to change the brake fluid-- it is itself the dealer manual, after all-- but in fact spends two pages on the procedure (47.8-47.9).
-No index? There's 10 pages in the front of the book, with categories in alphabetical order, with each page labeled at the top "index" (where does it say that an index MUST be in the back?).
-The cooling system isn't sealed? I'd love to hear how he thinks it operates at 14-17psi hot without being sealed! Or if what he means by "sealed" is "factory sealed/maintenance free", then he's clearly an automotive dunce, as NO cooling system is made that way.
-AC service section incomplete because it contains no information for AC systems before 1986? That's because pre-86 AC was a dealer installed add-on only, the parts made by a variety of aftermarket companies, shoehorned in in whatever way the dealership's greasemonkeys could manage. VW Germany had nothing to do with those systems so OBVIOUSLY they'd have nothing to say about them in the Factory Service Manual.

In short, this manual is exactly what it claims to be, and nothing more. If you want to learn about Vanagons and you're not an experienced mechanic, it would behoove you to consult the myriad of online user groups (the vanagon mailing list at [...], for example) in addition to buying a Bentley. The Bentley alone won't do it.

Bentley- Review

The Bentley does NOT give step-by-step troubleshooting advice. It *assumes* you know what "it" is, where "it" is & how. Hard to follow (this said from someone who did mechanical design for a living). NO INDEX. Generally vague Table of Contents. But, since there is no alternative repair maual available, it is the only game in town, and thus a "must have." Be prepared to be frustrated! Good luck!

Engineering design is the set of activities that lead to the manufacture of exciting new products such as aircraft, automobiles, home appliances, and hand tools as well as the construction of new facilities such as refineries, steel mills, and food processing plants. It is a pursuit that challenges our analytical abilities and our knowledge of mathematics, the sciences, and manufacturing to find solutions that work better, last longer, and are easy to maintain or repair. Just as important, however, is that engineering design is fulfilling and personally satisfying in that we can use our creative abilities to develop ideas, that they become real, and that they meet the needs of our fellow human beings.

This text is for students at the undergraduate or first-year graduate level. It is for design and nondesign faculty who wish to learn more about modern design concepts and methods. It is for practicing engineers who wish to enhance their knowledge and skills. The book is not a comprehensive, intellectual report of engineering design research. Rather, the text is a practical, down-to-earth presentation of engineering design integrating topics about the business of manufacturing. It draws upon the author's engineering and managerial experiences at organizations such as General Electric, Fisher Price Toys, Wurlitzer, and the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority. Preliminary versions of the text have been successful in semester-long design courses that include team-based design projects.

This book brings together the best design methods and practices in a consistent, clear, and orderly presentation. Readers are introduced to concepts and methods developed by the best engineering design authors in the world including Dixon and Poli, Dieter, Otto and Wood, Pahl and Beitz, and Ullman. Using a "just-in-time" philosophy of learning, topics are presented in an orderly fashion, progressively building design methods and terminology. The topics are presented and used, rather than stored away for use at a later date. Exercises at the end of each chapter use the knowledge and methods presented. Mary different examples are presented to highlight the similarities and differences of various design methods. An extensive summary of key terms is included in a glossary to delineate the important subtleties that are embodied in design and manufacturing terminology. In addition, self-quiz exercises are included at the end of each chapter for immediate reinforcement of the reader's understanding.

A number of other important features are included. Concurrent engineering and teamwork, particularly the role of communication and project management, is emphasized throughout the text. The interdependence of product function, materials, and manufacturing processes is examined with respect to the product realization process in separate chapters on materials and process selection. The voice of the customer is interwoven in chapters on design problem formulation and includes using customer satisfaction measures to evaluate design alternatives. The subject of human factors is presented along with tables and illustrations in such detail so as to provide the reader with the necessary tools for preparing preliminary designs that incorporate human abilities and limitations. Challenges in complexity and variability of multimedia data have led to revolutions in machine learning techniques. Multimedia data, such as digital images, audio streams and motion video programs, exhibit richer structures than simple, isolated data items. A number of pixels in a digital image collectively conveys certain visual content to viewers. A TV video program consists of both audio and image streams that unfold the underlying story.� To recognize the visual content of a digital image, or to understand the underlying story of a video program, we may need to label sets of pixels or groups of image and audio frames jointly.

Machine Learning for Multimedia Content Analysis introduces machine learning techniques that are particularly powerful and effective for modeling spatial, temporal structures of multimedia data and for accomplishing common tasks of multimedia content analysis.
