According to local gossip, several million dollars have been missing since the conviction of local conman Bronson Bolivar, and following his death in prison, his two grown children have torn his property apart looking for the funds. As Jake searches for the robber who targets well-to-do outdoorsmen, he finds a trail leading to the Bolivars. But the allure of quick cash also draws unexpected interest from both Bronson’s former cellmate and an upstanding federal judge. Will Jake understand the severity of the situation in time or get caught up in a web of deceit?

Missing Money, Crooks, Alligators and Game Wardens, What a Great Combination
By William D. Curnutt
Jake Crosby has left the world of being a stock broker and set the pressures of that job behind to become a Game Warden for the State of Mississippi, his home state. He loves being outdoors and in the woods. The bonus is that he is being paid to be there. BUT, not paid a lot and that causes some angst with his wife, Morgan, as she tries to pay the bills on a much lower income.
Jake is learning the ropes from his partner Virgil who has been a game warden for a long time. He is also looking into a case of hidden cash from years before. A man buried the cash of his greedy thieving ways somewhere on his property of 1,000 acres. His children have been searching for it for years, as well as everyone else. But what is interesting is that it's the local respected Court Judge that has asked Jake to look into the family and into the missing cash. The big question is "Why is the Judge so interested?"
The story will show that Game Wardens are not just people who give out tickets to people who have shot more than their limit of ducks on a given hunting trip. They also do their best to hunt down Felon's and other Criminals that run off into the woods and swamps to further their criminal activities.
Jake and Virgil will have two cases running simultaneously only to discover that they may intersect towards the end of the investigations.
The story is fun and provides a good bit of entertainment. I especially love Jake's new dog who seems to have a penchant for getting into trouble. The humorous interludes with the dog provide a good chuckle throughout the book.
Enjoy!

Not for me
By Terri Hoffman Curtis
I don’t know a whole lot about Thomas and Mercer Publishing, but “Old Money” by Bobby Cole reads like a typical self-published, inadequately edited book. It started out with hunters being assaulted and robbed by an unknown person, so I assumed that was going to be the story line. However, after a few chapters, that storyline wasn’t mentioned for a long time, and the focus changed to missing stolen money and different individuals trying to find it. Then it morphed into one of the missing-money seekers developing an absurd plan to sell a fake conquistador helmet (which at first was called a “mask” by the author) to a supposedly intelligent collector sight unseen.
Besides some very unbelievable scenarios, and inconsistencies, the author changes point of view with every paragraph throughout most of the book adding even more confusion to the storyline, and reinforcing the idea that he is an amateur.
I don’t like being so negative, but I couldn’t find any redeeming qualities about this book and plan to steer clear of this author.
I received a complimentary copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Greed, Greed and More Greed
By Sandy Penny
Old Money by Bobby Cole
Greed, greed and more greed. This reminded me of the old comedy movie, "It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World.." Only not as funny. Everybody's looking for old man Bronson's stolen money, hidden before he went to prison and never found, as far as they know. His twin son and daughter have searched everywhere, and it has made them bitter and mean. Jake, the new park ranger, former Wall Street Broker, is dealing with a his affluent hunters getting robbed at gunpoint while out in the woods alone. His old friend and mentor, a judge, asks him to keep an eye on the twins because they suspect they're up to something. They're hooking up with their dad's old prison cellmate to find out if he knows anything about the money. And then, the twins are also engineering a con on a New Orleans mafia family. Lots going on in this book. Enough to keep you dazed and confused until it all blows up. Everybody's looking to score, and only one person knows where the money is. It's a maze of conflicting agendas and a good read. The right hand does not know what the left hand is doing. There are a few plot issues, some inconsistencies, but still a good story. I think you'll like it. ~Review by Sandy Penny, sweetmysterybooks.com.
